Michael Burks: The Shred Factor

photo: Jeff Horton / Bluesviews.com

Michael Burks rarely plays down here and when he does, the man is a force to be reckoned with. Saturday's show at J & J's was a jewel. Michael usually finds himself at larger festivals and world tours, but on Saturday night, the joint was packed out to experience the blast from his twin stacked Dr. Z Amplifiers. As expected, Mike took it away, especially in his second set after I told him to turn up the heat. Already being pretty deaf from all of the live music we experience, my friends and I agreed we needed to move closer to the amps and for Mike to turn it up a notch. As requested the amps went up and everyone left the club with 3rd degree burns.

Michael has quite a story and will definitely be one of tomorrow's legends. He is a third generation bluesman from Arkansas, which as he told me last year, had the opportunity to experience guys like Freddie King and Albert King first hand growing up. These are the guys that set it off for him. As you know, blues is all about the lineage, or the storyline in which guys like Michael Burks are a part of.

If you didn't listen to me in the first post, please redeem yourself by visiting his websites and picking up his cd I Smell Smoke.

This is a "Mooretone" Custom guitar that was made for Michael Burks. If you are a guitar aficionado, please visit their website to get you one of these. It is definitely a must-have. Mike let me play this guitar and it is one awesome axe and anyone who puts that much effort into building anything gets a plug on The Blue Shoe Times blog! Visit "Mooretone" online here.
